Topics

While the physician is ultimately responsible, each member of the ophthalmic team plays a vital part in coding and documentation of the medical record. Topics for this six hour course to assist the ophthalmic team in appropriately maximizing reimbursement are:

  • Tips from the most effective offices

  • What’s new in 2008 — CPT, including the many changes to retinal coding, and ICD-9

  • PQRI implementation

  • New ambulatory surgical center rules

  • Coding options when billing for age related macular degeneration

  • Mastering modifiers Coding for major and minor surgeries

  • Coding for special testing services – and recognizing what can and can’t be billed on the same date of service

  • Correct Coding Initiative and its impact on surgical coding

  • Identifying explanation of benefits costly errors

  • Office of the Inspector General investigations

  • What ophthalmology audits have taught us

  • Consultations defined Eye code documentation update

  • When to bill an E&M code vs. an Eye code

  • New! Ethical coding

Continuing Medical Education Credits

The American Academy of Ophthalmology is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The American Academy of Ophthalmology designates this educationalactivity for a maximum of general AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM and one ethics AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

JCAHPO Credit

Ophthalmic Allied Health Professionals receive six JCAHPO "A" CE credit for completion of this course.

AAPC Credit
